Stop No. 4 on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour played host to the sole South American event on surfing's elite Tour and saw the ASP Top 34 and Top 17 continue their campaigns for the title of ASP World Champion.
On the men's side, the ASP Top 34 took to the powerful beachbreak of Barra Da Tijuca, with Gabriel Medina (BRA) leading the world's best as ASP World No. 1 alongside reigning three-time ASP World Champion Mick Fanning (AUS), Kelly Slater (USA), Joel Parkinson (AUS), defending event winner Jordy Smith (ZAF), Julian Wilson (AUS), Michel Bourez (PYF) and John John Florence (HAW).
Reigning two-time ASP Women's World Champion and past event winner Carissa Moore (HAW) led a field of the world's best female surfers that included Lakey Peterson (USA), Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), Tyler Wright (AUS), Coco Ho (HAW) and more.
