3x World Champion Mick Fanning nabbed the highest heat score of the opening round at the MEO Rip Curl Pro thanks to a couple beauties he slipped into at Supertubos. The Australian got the better of rookies Ian Gouveia and Frederico Morais in the heat, and jumps directly into Round Three with the win. Fanning was undeterred by the tricky conditions, "You just go out and expect nothing and hope for everything."
