Six-time World Champion Stephanie Gilmore started out the 2017 season in top form, grabbing the Jeep Leaders' jersey at the first event in Australia and holding onto it through the entire leg. But her results have been trending down ever since; after a 5th in Rio and a 9th in Fiji she surrendered the yellow status reserved for World No. 1. Then she bombed out at Huntington Beach with a 13th, compounding her problems. So her goal at the Swatch Pro is to simply stop the bleeding. That's not exactly an easy task for Gilmore, considering that she was pitted against the current Jeep Leader, Tyler Wright, in Round Four. The battle of the former Trestles champs had significant meaning. After all, the winner here at Trestles has gone on to win the Title every year. We're not sure if Gilmore knew that going in, but she sure surfed like she did. She grabbed a pair of 9-point rides to earn herself a huge heat win, and a trip to the Quarterfinals.
