Prior his opening heat at the Fiji Pro, French rookie Joan Duru hadn't had much experience surfing Cloudbreak. But with a week's worth of lay-day practice sessions now under his belt, and the help of impromptu coach Michel Bourez, Duru put what he's learned to good work in an explosive victory over World No. 2 Jordy Smith. It's only the third heat win of his young Championship Tour (CT) career, but he's already guaranteed his best-ever result on Tour, with plenty of opportunity to improve on what's already in the bank.
