Ryan Callinan made things interesting in the Rookie of the Year Race when he knocked out frontrunner Caio Ibelli during Round Two of the Billabong Pipe Masters. Ryan's solid barrel-to-carve combo at the tail end of their heat proved deadly against the Brazilian. While Callinan is simply scratching for requalification at Pipe, his win opened the door for fellow rookies Conner Coffin, who's ranked No. 19, and Stu Kennedy, who's No. 18, to make a run at the R.O.T.Y title. Although Stu also went down early, Coffin started to gain serious ground on Ibelli (No. 15) when he broke through to Round Three.
