Sitting in last place with the clock ticking down in his Round One heat, Nic Lamb knew he needed to pull something heroic. The Californian pushed himself over the ledge on a thick Pe'ahi bomb, knowing an avalanche of whitewater was close behind. Lamb's ability to outrun this monster earned him a solid score, and rocketed him into first place, where he remained for the rest of the heat.
