Ewing and Robinson Continue their Domination at Phillip Island

Subway Surf Series Phillip Island Winners Ethan Ewing and India Robinson - WSL / Bell-Warren

Ethan Ewing (AUS) and India Robinson (AUS) have been crowned champions of the Subway Pro Junior at Phillip Island, the fourth event of the 2016 Subway Surf Series.

The final day was held in great 3ft waves at the infamous open ocean Cape Woolamai Beach.

The two day event saw a stacked field of local and interstate competitors take to the water with big prize money and WSL Australasia Pro Junior Series rating points on the line.

In the men's division Ethan Ewing continued his rampage of excellent form, this is his second Subway Surf Series win, taking him to a total of three WSL Pro Junior titles this year. The strong natural footer from Queensland's North Stradbroke Island defeated a late finishing Billy Harrison (Barwon Heads, VIC) in their 25 minute final.

Ewing saved his best for last for the Final, his two wave total of 16.50 (out of a possible 20) in his best score of the event.

"This is my first time to Victoria and I am really stoked to win the event" said Ewing. I really like the feel of the area, it reminds me of home. The waves were super fun, Billy had been surfing really well all weekend and it feels awesome to get another win this year".

Ewing's single highest score from the final, an 8.75 (out of a possible 10) was the nail in the coffin for Harrison's campaign, with the Victorian left chasing a large score for victory.

In the women's, India Robinson took her second career WSL Pro Junior title over Lucy Callister (AUS).

The women's final was extremely close between Robinson and Callister, with the lead changing several times throughout the matchup.

With less than 5 minutes remaining, Robinson was in second chasing a 4.65 ride until she found a mid-sized left hander and connected a series of backside turns, locking in a 5.50 and the victory.

"I'm really happy to win today with my win today" said an elated Robinson. I had some slow heats at the start of the event, I really worked hard to build my totals and I am more than stoked with the result".

"It is awesome to have the Subway Surf Series, it provides a really good opportunity for me and the other girls to compete at a high level all around Australia".

The next event in the Subway Surf Series is set to hit the South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula on the 19th and 20th of March.

The WSL sanctioned Subway® Pro Junior events, which includes 18 and under men's and women's divisions, form part of the 2016 WSL Australasian Junior Qualifying Series (JQS), providing the winning athletes with an opportunity to win a coveted world title, at the WSL World Junior Championships in early 2017.
