In 2004, Sofia Mulanovich came from behind to win the WSL (then ASP) Championship. Not only was it a first WSL win for her and her home country of Peru, but for all of South America. Since retiring from Tour in 2013, Mulanovich has her sights on nurturing the next generation of pros from Peru with Sofia Proyecto. The surf academy selects a handful of talented young surfers to train and mentor, regardless of socioeconomic background.
In this new segment, go behind the scenes of the project to get a glimpse of the Champ's vision and the children who are striving to achieve their surf dreams.
Read more about the project and Mulanovich in her WSL interview. Plus, tune in for her Heritage Series heat against Lisa Andersen at the Swatch Women's Pro Friday, September 18. Live action begins at 7:30 a.m. local time.
