As a 2014 World Title contender, Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) is at the top of her game on a surfboard. But she'll be on bigger watercraft this December, as crew in Australia's famous Sydney-to Hobart yacht race.

The annual race, now in its 70th year, is one of Oz's premier sporting events. It covers 628 nautical miles (approximately 1,170 km) -- from Sydney to Hobart, Tasmania -- and is widely considered one of the most difficult yacht races in the world.

Fitzgibbons and other celebs yet to be named will be aboard the 100-foot supermaxi Perpetual Loyal, one of 119 sailboats to compete. She and the Perpetual crew are sailing to raise money for the Loyal Foundation, which helps charities provide children's medical equipment for Australian hospitals.

“I am so excited. It's something I have been dreaming of for years, something I never actually imagined I would be able to do," Fitzgibbons told The Daily Telegraph. "I have nervous energy but I am good with that."

Fitzgibbons will need that energy before she even sets foot on board. With only one event left in the 2014 women's World Championship Tour (WCT) season, the Target Maui Pro, Fitzgibbons is No. 2 in the rankings and in hot pursuit of a her first World Title. Action kicks off at Honolua Bay November 22 and will be broadcast LIVE on this site.
