Californian Courtney Conlogue has opted out of the Vans US Open of Surfing, as she continues to rehab an ankle injury sustained earlier this year.
"Withdrawing from the US Open was a tough decision, but my ankle is not 100 percent yet," Conlogue said. "Right now, I'm really trying to do things smarter and with this off time it's been a great opportunity to learn."
Two events separate her from her last World Championship Tour (WCT) event. After back-to-back Quarterfinals finishes at the start of 2014, in April during a freesurf at Bells she got twisted in the foam. She left Oz with an ankle injury that has kept her out of competition since.

Still, no one is counting Conlogue -- currently ranked No. 10 on the WCT -- out of the running to again make next year's elite Top 17.
"Courtney is a great competitor," said ASP Deputy Commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer. "It's hard having to watch her withdraw from the last few events, but I know she will bring that competitive drive to her recovery and finish out the season in good standing."
Conlogue is far from giving up on her 2014 campaign. "I've been doing everything I can to be in the water sooner [rather] than later," she said, "and doing everything humanly possible to make sure I get back in there."
