TAGHAZOUT, Morocco (Tuesday, February 25, 2025) - The World Surf League Pro Taghazout Bay Qualifying Series (QS) 3,000 completed completed a mammoth day of surfing to capitalise on the non-stop run of incredible conditions, with four-to-six foot surf all day long at Anchor Point. Excellent scores were aplenty, with surfers helping themselves to the buffet of world class waves served in Taghazout.
Ramzi Boukhiam (MAR), surrounded by friends and family, had a stellar day in the office with three excellent heats to advance to the Semifinals. The Championship Tour surfer faced Adin Masencamp (RSA) in the Quarters in a scintillating matchup. Boukhiam had Masencamp in a combination situation with an excellent heat total, and the South African fought back hard to get the best score of the heat, but he couldn't back it up and the crowds erupted as the Moroccan advanced at his homebreak. Boukhiam will meet Maxime Huscenot (FRA) in the Semifinals.
The performance of the day went to Jorgann Couzinet (FRA), locking in a near-perfect heat total of 18.87 (out of a possible 20) in his Round of 16 heat. Fired up after seeing the excellent surfing throughout the day, Couzinet was chomping at the bit. The Frenchmen locked in a 9.10 (out of a possible 10) with a big layback frontside maneuver and a combination of powerful turns. He went even bigger and better on his next wave for a 9.77 from the judges for three huge turns into the most critical part of the wave.
Couzinet will come up against Luke Thompson (RSA) in the Semifinals after defeating Andy Criere (ESP). Thompson has been improving with every heat, locking in a 9.10 in his Quarterfinal matchup to book his second Semifinal appearance in Taghazout.
The waves were firing for the Women's Round of 16 and the WSL Europe Junior Champion Annette Gonzalez Extabarri (EUK) got off to a flying start to book her spot in the Quarterfinals. Gonzalez Etxabarri got to work on a beautiful set wave with a combination of big carves and snappy turns to score a 9.57, the highest score in the women's competition.
The 2022 World Junior Champion, Francisca Veselko's (POR) wave selection was on point, surfing two excellent waves to put together a heat total of 16.40. Anat Leilor (WRL) also jumped into the excellent range with an 8.47 to earn her ticket to the Quarters.
Challenger Series surfer Nadia Erostarbe (EUK) might have left it to the last minute in her Round of 16 heat, but her patience paid off when she found a massive wave and unloaded a few big turns to get the required score and jump into the second advancing spot behind Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri (EUK).
Rounding out the Quarterfinals are Nahia Milhau (FRA), Camilla Kemp (DEU) and South African youngster Louise Lepront.
The next call will be on Wednesday, February 26 at 6:45 AM for a possible start at 7:00 AM GMT.
