TAGHAZOUT, Morocco (Friday, February 21, 2025) - The World Surf League (WSL) Pro Taghazout Bay Qualifying Series (QS) 3,000 competition window officially opens tomorrow February 22, 2025 and will run through March 1, 2025. The first call will be on Saturday, February 22 at 7.30 AM GMT+1.
The third edition of the Pro Taghazout Bay is likely to start at the right-hand point break of Anchor Point, with Anza being available as the backup venue. Competition director Laurent Miramon said the event is an exceptional showcase for Moroccan surfing.
"Anchor Point is once again set to offer optimal conditions, with excellent swell forecasts," Miramon said. "This world class wave is a true playground for surfers seeking performance and thrill and this event has become a must on the international circuit."
With 3,000 points on offer, the Pro Taghazout Bay attracts the elite of European and African surfing as competitors battle it out for a chance to qualify for the 2025 Challenger Series. This competitive field provides a unique opportunity to Moroccan surfers, who get to compete with the best on the QS circuit.
Another highlight of this edition is the Moroccan wildcards, further strengthening the national presence in the competition, and allowing two local athletes to represent their country and compete against the best. In the women's draw, the wildcard has been awarded to Lilias Tebbai, currently ranked 30th in the QS standings. The men's wildcard was awarded to Soulaimane Khafi, who delivered an outstanding performance at the Morocco Mall Junior Pro in Casablanca.
The men's competition promises to be even more intense with the presence of Championship Tour surfer Ramzi Boukhiam, who will return to his home spot with pride and determination. "Ramzi knows this wave better than anyone and always takes immense pleasure in performing in front of his home crowd, in such an exceptional setting," Miramon said.
But the Pro Taghazout Bay experience goes beyond the action in the water. "Morocco, Agadir, and the Taghazout Bay tourist resort offer an ideal setting, combining hospitality, modern infrastructure, and a booming surf culture. These are all assets that make this competition a unique event for both surfers and spectators," Miramon concluded.
With the high level of competition and optimal surfing conditions on the horizon, the Pro Taghazout Bay is establishing itself as a key event on the QS calendar, helping to propel Moroccan surfing onto the international stage.
The 2025 Pro Taghazout Bay is scheduled from February 22 - March 1, at Anchor Point, Taghazout Bay / Morocco.
The PRO TAGHAZOUT BAY is supported by Taghazout Bay, VisitMorocco.com, CIH Bank, Seat, Afriquia Gaz, Marsa Maroc, Fairmont Taghazout Bay, Rip Curl, Ain Atlas, Arma, Butec, 2M, Radio Mars, Radio 2M.
