TAGHAZOUT, Morocco (Wednesday, February 12, 2025) - The World Surf League (WSL) Pro Taghazout Bay Qualifying Series (QS) 3,000 is less than two weeks away and the excitement is building for pro surfing to return to Morocco's Taghazout Bay. The Pro Taghazout Bay runs from February 22 - March 1, 2025 and is part of the African and European regional QS.
The Pro Taghazout Bay has garnered significant enthusiasm from athletes. The entries filled in quickly with more than 128 men and 64 women rushing to secure their participation in the event.
"As we approach the business end of the 2024/25 QS season, the Pro Taghazout Bay plays a crucial role in shaping this year's Challenger Series," Luqmaan Bruce, WSL Africa Regional Tour Manager said.
"The world-class waves of Anchor Point provide the perfect arena for high-stakes surfing for the best surfers of Africa and Europe to earn valuable rankings points."
This year, the event boasts an incredibly competitive field across men and women. Championship Tour surfer and local hero, Ramzi Boukhiam (MAR) will compete at the Pro Taghazout Bay after the second Championship Tour stop in Abu Dhabi.
Morocco's future stars, Redouane Regragui and Aboubakar Bouaouda are also looking forward to compete at home.
"I'm really happy to start the year with the first QS at my home break," Regragui said. "I hope it will allow me to earn some points for the next stop in South Africa. It's always been my dream to win a QS in my hometown. I really like the energy of the Moroccan people. I want to make my family proud and my country as well. The dream is still the same for me to be able to end the year at least in the top 4 to qualify for the Challenger Series next year," Regragui said.
The women's draw will feature local star Lilias Tebbai (MAR), coming up against WSL Europe QS rankings leader Tya Zebrowski (FRA) and perennial threats Annette Gonzalez Etxabarri (EUK) and Noah Klapp (DEU).
Lilias Tebbai, six-time Moroccan national champion, said she loves Taghazout for its perfect waves and, most importantly, amazing right-handers.
"It's an event I really look forward to, because it's the best contest in Morocco," Tebbai said. "It's also a special competition for me, because I get to be with family, at home, and it just feels great. I can't wait to be there and hope we get amazing conditions!"
