BELLS BEACH, Victoria, Australia (Monday, April 1, 2024) - The iconic Bells Beach, the longest-running professional surfing competition, has been confirmed as a World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) venue through 2028.
The new four-year extension will see the event continue as a mainstay on the CT and ensure the world's best surfers will continue to ‘ring the Bell' for World Championship points into the future.
"We are pleased to confirm one of the events for the 2025 Championship Tour and beyond, the iconic Bells Beach," said Jessi Miley-Dyer, WSL Chief of Sport. "Bells Beach holds a revered place in the surfing world, embodying the spirit and legacy of the sport. Its inclusion as a multi-year stop on our Tour reflects its iconic status and the profound impact it has had and will continue to have on surfing culture. We are thrilled to continue honoring Bells Beach's rich history and tradition as we showcase the world's top surfers on this legendary stage. We plan to share more stops on the 2025 CT schedule throughout this season for our fans and the communities we'll be visiting. One locked in with more to come!"
"WSL is thrilled to have secured Bells Beach as a CT location until 2028," said WSL APAC President Andrew Stark. "Bells is one of the most iconic events on the WSL Championship Tour annually and certainly the one with the longest history. We are extremely proud to host the event annually in Victoria and we sincerely thank the Victorian Government for their ongoing support that ensures we continue this amazing tradition of ringing the Bell each year at Bells Beach."
"When the famous Bell is rung each year, it adds to the history of this iconic Victorian event - which is staying right here for another four years," said Victoria's Minister for Tourism Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos. "With support from the Victorian Government, Bells Beach will continue to attract thousands of visitors to the Surf Coast region - boosting local businesses and jobs."
"The Championship Tour puts Bells Beach and the Surf Coast region on the global stage and reminds viewers that the best major events can be found in Victoria," said Visit Victoria CEO Brendan McClements.
