TEAHUPO'O, Tahiti, French Polynesia (Friday, August 11, 2023) - Carissa Moore (USA) has provisionally qualified through the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) to represent her country at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Moore is guaranteed to finish the 2023 CT as one of the top two American women on the WSL Rankings and has earned her provisional place to compete in Tahiti. The 30-year-old will represent the United States of America at the Olympic Games for a second time, having won Gold in Tokyo.
Moore is a five-time WSL World Champion from Honolulu, Hawaii. At just 18 years old, Moore arrived on the Championship Tour in 2010, posing an immediate threat to Stephanie Gilmore's (AUS) reign. She unleashed a paradigm-shifting supply of power to the CT, earning her 28 event wins. Moore won her last World Title in 2021 at the inaugural Rip Curl WSL Finals. Moore continued her dominating performance with a 2nd place finish the following season. With the 2023 CT underway, Moore has stayed at the top of the rankings, winning three of the last eight events. With a wealth of experience and skill, a sixth World Title and second Olympic medal are within Moore's reach.
Surfing will return to the Olympic Games after making its 2020 Olympic debut in Tokyo. The 2024 Olympics will be held on the French Polynesian island of Tahiti at Teahupo'o, the iconic wave known for massive barrels, heavy drops, and a shallow reef. This will be familiar to the WSL surfers as it is the featured stop on the WSL CT and the next stop on the 2023 CT season.
The WSL CT, the highest level of competitive surfing that crowns the World Champions, is surfing's tier-one qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games. WSL will provisionally qualify the first ten men and eight women for Paris 2024. Learn more about Surfing's Olympic Qualification process.
