LOS ANGELES, Calif., USA (January 18, 2023) - Today, the World Surf League (WSL) and SHISEIDO announced a renewal and extension of their global partnership for 2023. SHISEIDO's partnership will expand into the Official Suncare of the WSL and global WSL Championship Tour (CT) partner, as well as continuing on as the Global Sustainability Partner of the WSL. SHISEIDO will be the title partner for Stop No. 10 on the WSL CT, the Shiseido Tahiti Pro, scheduled for August 11 - 20, 2023.
In this partnership, SHISEIDO will host on-site activations, including sunscreen/suncare stations where fans can sample and purchase products, as well as the production of co-branded in-broadcast vignettes designed to promote sustainability and the Qualification Season campaign.
"To have SHISEIDO return for 2023 and expand the relationship speaks to the strength of our partnership," said Cherie Cohen, WSL Chief Revenue Officer. "Both WSL and SHISEIDO are fully invested in sustainability, and our alignment of values, along with SHISEIDO being a brand endemic to the beach, makes this partnership tremendously valuable, and we are thrilled to continue working together."
"SHISEIDO is pleased to announce the extension of its global partnership with WSL, a partnership that has been ongoing since 2019," said Ryota Yukisada, Chief Brand Officer of Shiseido. "SHISEIDO was founded on the value of respect for society, environment, and nature, which aligns perfectly with the beautiful platform the WSL offers to the world. With this expansion, we are excited to further build on our shared sustainability. SHISEIDO products utilize innovative technology to promote inner and outer beauty, which WSL athletes also reflect. We look forward to working with the WSL team, NGO partners, and fans to develop more exciting and innovative projects to protect our ocean worldwide."
SHISEIDO will return for 2023 as WSL's Global Sustainability Partner, continuing their support of We Are One Ocean (WAOO), the WSL's global initiative to inspire the global surf community to protect and conserve our one ocean and preserve the future of our sport, alongside the work of the SHISEIDO BLUE PROJECT. In 2023, the WSL and SHISEIDO plan to continue hosting activations at select CT stops alongside partners and WAOO grantees and achieving an even greater impact to protect our one ocean.
The 2023 Championship Tour will include 10 regular-season events in seven countries, starting in January at the Billabong Pro Pipeline and concluding at the SHISEIDO Tahiti Pro before the Rip Curl WSL Finals at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, Calif.
As the final event of the regular CT season, the SHISEIDO Tahiti Pro will not only play a major role in deciding the WSL Final 5 men and Final 5 women for the Rip Curl WSL Finals, but it will also be crucial to the surfers' Olympic qualification campaigns for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Stop No. 10, the SHISEIDO Tahiti Pro could be the final opportunity for the first 18 athletes (10 men and 8 women) to qualify for the Olympic Games and will be an incredible showcase for what's to come in the Paris 2024 Olympics as it will be hosted at the same wave: the world-famous Teahupo'o in Tahiti.
The SHISEIDO Tahiti Pro will hold a competition window from August 11 - 20, 2023. All the action will be broadcast LIVE on WorldSurfLeague.com, the WSL's YouTube channel, and the free WSL app. Also, check local listings for coverage from the WSL's broadcast partners.
