A plethora of talented North America regional competitors is ready and waiting for Jack's Surfboards Pro QS 1,000 first horn August 5 - 8. This event will be fireworks from start to finish featuring former Championship Tour (CT) surfers to accomplished Pro Juniors and upcoming competitors looking for their first taste of QS action.
Here is a shortlist including just a few of the 128 men and 40 women to keep tabs on throughout the live broadcast.
Nat Young
Ranked #19 on the QS, Young locks in a 17.36 heat total (9.13 + 8.23) and looks to return to the Championship Tour at the Hawaiian Pro.
Former CT veteran and one of Santa Cruz, California's, finest came out firing in 2020 before events halted and the 30-year-old is primed for a big 2021 finish sitting well within the Challenger Series qualification cut off. Young's lethal backhand earned him yet another major QS victory to start 2020, after winning a QS 6,000 in Japan the year prior, and will bring his explosive arsenal to Huntington Beach.
Crosby Colapinto
The 17-year-old defeated an in-form Phillippe Chagas during a tight Final in all-time Huntington Beach conditions.
The reigning Jack's Surfboards Pro victor hasn't slowed down since his maiden QS victory in the spring of 2019. The 20-year-old, San Clemente, California, surfer went on to earn two CT wildcards that year, two Pro Junior victories, and started off 2020 just outside the Top 100. Trips to Indonesia and another CT wildcard in 2021 have only helped sharpen his blades as he prepares for 2021/22.
Jake Marshall
Marshall found himself on the precipice of CT qualification in 2019 and is right back in the picture heading into the Challenger Series in 2021.
Encinitas, California, was already on the map with its professional surfing history and Marshall has added to its resume beautifully. The 22-year-old came within just a few heats of making a surge into the Top 10 and qualifying for the CT during his 2019 campaign, and now looks to kickstart that momentum once more.
Josh Burke
The island's own reclaimed the Thomo QS 1,000 In Memory of Bill Thomson title for Barbados.
Barbados will have its contenders at this event including 2019 Thomo QS 1,000 winner Burke and, in his first-ever QS away from home, emerging talent Ocean Gittens. Burke, 24, earned his second-ever QS victory in a special way with a win at Soup Bowl to close out 2019 and sat at No. 74 on the 2020 rankings heading into the event halt. Now he returns hungry as ever for a shot at CT qualification but must crack the Top 10 of North America first to do so - currently sitting at No. 12.
Michael Dunphy
The former Vans Pro Virginia Beach, VA QS 3,000 victor is looking for a second title to push his season in the right direction.
The mainland East Coast isn't to be left out of any regional conversation and Dunphy leads the charge sitting at No. 2 on the regional ranks - securing a spot into the upcoming Challenger Series events. Dunphy, 31, leads a pack of fellow East Coasters including two-time QS event winner Luke Gordon, Pipeline standout Cam Richards, and yearly CT threat Evan Geiselman. But, for the Virginia Beach-raised turned Florida transplant, this event is a jumping point to bigger things and getting his qualification campaign on track.
The Jack's Surfboards Pro will be streamed live August 5 - 8 at the Huntington Beach Pier, Huntington Beach, California.
