One has to go back to 2018 to find the last time Carissa Moore missed the Finals Day of a Championship Tour event. Now into the Semifinals of the Rip Curl Rottnest Search presented by Corona, where she will face Johanne Defay, she's already matched her worst result of the season -- a third-place finish.
Moore hasn't dropped a heat against Defay in five years and holds an impressive 7-1 head-to-head record against her. In fact, the last time the Frenchwoman was able to eek out a win against the four-time World Champ was the Final of the 2016 Fiji Women's Pro.
And whatever happens at Rottnest Island, Moore is in complete command of the WSL Final 5. The only surfer remaining in the draw that currently sits in the top five is Tyler Wright, who is ranked fifth and 10,000 points behind Moore on the leaderboard. Basically, if the Rip Curl WSL Finals had not been created this year Moore would be cruising to her fifth World Title hardly a care in the world.
Gabriel Medina and Carissa Moore continue to set the pace at the Rip Curl Rottnest Search presented by Corona.
But thankfully the Title's not going down like that this season. And sneaking a peak at the CT schedule ahead, the Jeep Surf Ranch Pro is coming up on June 18, which Moore won in 2018 and finished third in 2019.
She's also one of the most experienced females on Tour at Teahupoo. She's been taking trips down to Tahiti for years and will surely feel more comfortable than most of her competitors at the treacherous reef break.
And forget about it when the Rip Curl WSL Finals land at Lowers in September. She's been competing on the cobblestone point since her earliest grom days on the National Scholastic Surfing Association circuit. She ranks the wave as one of her favorites in the world and won the 2015 Swatch Women's Pro there.
Simply put, nobody on Tour is as consistent as Carissa Moore. And while she may not be able to blatantly run away with the World Title this season, she's still in firm control of the narrative.
