For the first time in Pipeline history we get to watch a brother and sister duo compete during the same window of a Championship Tour. With the move of the Maui Pro presented by ROXY at Pipeline to the iconic North Shore reef for the remainder of competition, Tyler and Mikey Wright take a special place in history as the first brother and sister to surf a CT event in the 50-year competitive history at Pipe.

Tyler will be up against Sally Fitzgibbons in the first heat of the Semifinals. Mikey took the place of his older brother Owen Wright in the Billabong Pipe Masters presented by Hydro Flask, but lost out in the Round of 32.

This year marks the 50th running of the Pipe Masters, and over the years 11 sets of brothers have competed together at the, including the newest addition of Joshua Moniz, winner of the 2021 Pipeline Invitational, and his younger brother Seth Moniz. But this will be the first time we see a brother and a sister combination.

Both Tyler and Mikey are coming back from long stints on the injured list. Tyler spent the extended time off during 2020 focusing on her health and mental well-being. Back and looking better than ever, during her Quarterfinal heat at Honolua Bay she earned the first 10-point ride of the season, dipping under the cover for a barrel and finishing it off with a set of vertical gouges.

The two-time World Champ ducked under cover, claimed it beautifully, then unleashed a battery of bashes on her way to a glorious ten-point reward.

This year marked Mikey's first time competing in the Pipe Masters. After a sustained injury his first year on tour in 2019, and with 2020 being cancelled due to the pandemic, he was unable to compete. He's also been embroiled in a surf-off against Italy's Leonardo Fioravanti for the final injury replacement spot into the 2021 season. Coming up short in the three-heat affair, hopefully we see more of Mikey this year at some point.
