It's been called the finest 3 minutes in competitive surfing history.
In 2018, Gabriel Medina was eyeing his second World Title and met Conner Coffin in the quarterfinals. Out of the gates, Coffin scrapped - paddling over and around Medina, beating him at his own game to secure a couple Backdoor bombs. Medina was on the ropes. Until this happened.
Gabby rolled into a Pipe bomb, the biggest of the day, slammed the brakes, got blown out and punted an air to the tune of a 9.4. He rode the swift rip in the channel back out and thanks to a small priority blunder by Coffin, immediately stroked into a Backdoor bomb less than a minute later, again the biggest of the day. Medina threaded and emerged. A 10. 19.4 score in 90 seconds.
By that point, everyone knew who was winning the title and the event.
