Since its Championship Tour debut in 2018, the Surf Ranch has seen the most aerial progression from female surfers out of any other stop on Tour. With the added pressure of competing in a set number of waves, going above the lip means putting it all on the line. But in these cases, it was all worth it.
Looking back to the 2018 Surf Ranch Pro, Carissa Moore found a deep barrel and lined herself up for an air reverse but failed to ride out. That same year Lakey Peterson went above the lip and found herself unable to land the same maneuver.
The rookie lands an impressive air reverse for a 6.2 during the Final of the Surf Ranch Pro.
Then, the Rookie of the Year, Caroline Marks, pulled lofty air reverse her final lefhander. Despite giving it her all, Marks ended up finishing an equal third place to Peterson, and Moore took home the first trophy at the Surf Ranch.
The following year, Lakey Peterson came back for redemption, landing a tail-high front side air-reverse. She earned a near perfect score of a 9.33 and took home an emotional Freshwater Pro win.

Another Championship Tour surfer that we have seen go above the lip is Coco Ho, who returned to Waco earlier this year to conquer the maneuver that injured her for most of the 2019 season.
