Sally Fitzgibbons clinched her second Rio Women's Pro title in three years when she topped reigning two-time ASP Women's World Champ Carissa Moore in trying conditions at Barra Da Tijuca. The victory in conjunction with a fifth place on the Gold Coast and thirds at Margaret River and Bells vaults the three-time ASP World Runner up back to the No. 2 position and well within contention for the women's elite crown entering Fiji.
Fitzgibbons had admittedly been rifling through boards entering the Rio Women's Pro, and after she creased her original go-to shortie, her move to a backup board that was one inch longer proved to be the winning recipe.
Fitzgibbons has been working with Firewire innovator Nev Hyman since 2012 and the team's official Sally Pro Model would be the weapon of choice on her road to victory.

"For this event in Rio I changed it up a little bit from Bells," said Fitzgibbons. "I broke a couple of boards and that changed the direction of what shapes I was riding. The board I won on is a 'Sally Model.' Just my stock, standard 5'7" shortboard. It seemed to fit in the pocket really well here in Rio and even midway through the event I had a 5'6." I creased that board and that forced me on to the 5'7" and that one actually felt a lot better."
"We've been working with Sally for a number of years and she is the consummate professional in everything she does," Hyman said. "She's been surfing incredibly well this year and it was only a matter of time until we saw her on the podium. I'm very proud of her and it's a fantastic endorsement of the product."
Next stop on the 2014 ASP Women's WCT is the Fiji Women's Pro, which runs from May 25-30, 2014.
