Legendary San Diego shaper Chris Christenson just put out a challenge to fellow shapers, calling for them to donate masks to those who need them most.
Last week, according to Surfer Magazine, he was forced to lay off his entire staff and temporarily close up shop amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
That same day, Christenson spoke with his friend, Dr. Dan Hancock from Mission Hospital in Orange County, and was inspired to donate the majority of his masks to Dr. Hancock's team.
Mission Hospital, like most hospitals across the country, is battling the shortage of proper protective equipment. This primarily includes masks, which have been in exceptionally high demand since the start of the outbreak.

Thankfully, most board shapers still have plenty of masks lying around, for everything from sanding to glassing.
Christenson, whose craft can be seen under the feet of Ian Walsh, Greg Long, as well as east-coast longboarder Mikey Detemple, recognized these masks as a perfect source for hospitals.
After working with his supplier to provide hundreds of masks to Mission Hospital, "Christenson then went to his factory and gathered the ones he had remaining there and shipped them to doctors and nurses he knew around the country, some as far as Tennessee," Surfer Magazine reported.
