At least Lewis Hamilton got to catch some waves after traveling to Melbourne for the Formula One season opener, which was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The six-time F1 champ went for a night session at the URBNSURF pool while in Australia.
"It's been the weirdest day, who goes surfing at 10pm at night? But to end what has been a real bummer of a day, I'm going to surf," Hamilton says in the video posted to his Instagram account.
Hamilton, a keen surfer, had been a vocal critic of plans to run the first race of the season, choosing to take a stand and speak his mind at a press conference ahead of the event.
It's unclear when exactly this nighttime session took place, and the fact is there would have been more than a few "tough days" for Hamilton while in Australia. But we're glad he got to get his stoke on and unwind.
In these trying times, it's another good reminder of the healing power of some switch-off time on a wave or two, be they chlorinated or saltwater.
