AUCKLAND, New Zealand (Monday, December 23, 2019) - The World Surf League (WSL) is thrilled to announce that Corona will be the title partner of the 2020 Piha Pro Challenger Series (CS) event in New Zealand.
The Corona Piha Pro will play as the second event on the newly announced WSL Challenger Series and will see some of surfing's biggest international stars and New Zealand's most promising talent descend, on Piha shores this coming March.
"WSL is really excited that Corona is coming on as the title partner for such an important event on our 2020 Calendar," said WSL Asia Pacific General Manager Andrew Stark. "This is going to be a huge event on the Challenger Series and our first in New Zealand in over 5 years, so to have one of our major global partners in Corona come on board is a great fit. We can't wait for the inaugural Corona Piha Pro."
Corona's partnership with the WSL began in 2015 when the brand became the Official Beer Partner of the World Surf League globally. The Corona Piha Pro will see Corona deepening its commitment to surfing in New Zealand by becoming the exclusive beer partner for the second Challenger Series event held down under in 2020.
"We're really excited to be working with WSL here in Aotearoa," said Corona NZ Brand Manager Ray Schultz. "Our global partnership unlocks so many special moments in some of the most beautiful places around the world and the Piha Pro will be no exception. Kiwis love the Corona brand and the aspirational, outdoors lifestyle it embodies, so this will be a great chance for us to get the community in behind us as we celebrate our local surfing talent going head-to-head with some of the world's best."
The 2020 Corona Piha Pro will run from March 16 - 22, at Piha Beach. Please visit WorldSurfLeague.com or download the free WSL App for more information on the Piha Pro and the newly announced WSL Challenger Series.
The Piha Pro is proudly supported by our partners at New Zealand Major Events, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) and Corona.
