The World Surf League will host a first-ever Junior event in Brittany at the world-famous La Torche point in May 2018.
The E.Leclerc Pont L'Abbé Junior Pro La Torche will bring professional junior surfers for the first time to Northwest France this Spring.
After two consecutive events in Espinho and Caparica in Portugal earlier this season, the European Junior Qualifying Series move to France for two more events.
Where?
La Torche is an iconic point in France's Northwest region of Brittany. The location hosted international events in surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and stand-up paddle boarding over the past few decades.
Located at the Southern end of the Audierne bay, the La Torche point is a natural peninsula with various expositions to the swells and winds of the North Atlantic. It's a highly consistent beachbreak that can handle size. Waves break on both sides of the point, La Torche to the right looking out to the ocean, and Pors Carn to the left.
Numerous surfers hail from the region like Ian Fontaine and Gaspard Larsonneur who are regular faces on the QS and plenty more are coming as the French Federation has installed a high-performance training center to groom the next generations of surfing talent.
What?
The E.Leclerc Pont L'Abbé Junior Pro La Torche will be Stop No. 3 on the European Junior Qualifying Series. So far, the 2018 season has seen a new crop of young guns emerge through the ranks and introducing a new location on tour will only invigorate the new battles for the European title.
After two events in Portugal, surfers will compete twice in France as well, first in La Torche, then in Biscarrosse further down the coast the following week.
With a total of five events on the schedule this season, the best four results will count in crowning the 2018 European Junior Champions, and determine the four men and two women qualifiers for the next World Junior Championship.
