Sunset Beach came alive for opening day of the 2017 Vans World Cup. Big surf and strong winds combined to create wild, yet sometimes perfect, conditions for Round One of the second jewel of the Vans Triple Crown. Giant peaks, deep tubes and brutal wipeouts were the order of the day as Sunset locals like Torrey Meister, Billy Kemper, Finn McGill and Barron Mamiya took advantage of classic conditions at their home spot with just three other surfers in the lineup.
