The relative slump that Carissa Moore has been slogging through this year may finally be behind her. At the Cascais Women's Pro last week, she finished runner-up -- her best result of the year. And today, the first of the Roxy Pro France, she put any doubts about her competitive mojo to bed with a razor-thin loss in Round One, and an all-out assault in Round Two.
On the heels of a resurgent performance in Cascais, the three-time World Champ simply smashed her Round Two heat at the Roxy Pro.
There, in her do-or-die battle against Pauline Ado, Moore paddled out to win, without a margin of error. After a narrow loss to Stephanie Gilmore earlier in the day, she took no chances with this second chance. First, she opened with a 9.00, putting on the kind of commanding performance that has helped her win three World Titles. After a throwaway wave, she went on to raise the bar, with a 9.17.
Unfortunately for Ado, there was simply no matching Moore's fire. No matter what happens next in the Roxy Pro, she reminded everyone of what she is capable.
