Ramzi and Coco top their respective fields to be crowned the 2017 Pro Anglet Champions.
The Pro Anglet wrapped up today in similar conditions as the rest of the week, really fun mid-tide and a little fat at low. Only six heats were left un-surfed and finals day was a short affair, with the podium ceremony held around midday.
Men's Final: Ramzi's Rampage Goes All the Way
Ramzi Boukhiam built momentum through the week in Anglet and actually peaked right on time to post his highest performance when he needed it the most, in the Final. With an 8+ early on, he started to pressure his opponent, and when he posted a 7.97 to back it up, that sealed the deal.

Ramzi has been on the Qualifying Series for a while now, and he actually caught a big break right when he started in 2012 by winning a QS6,000. Since then, he's been slowly but surely climbing up the ranks and now sits around the 30th mark, and eager to go way further up before the season ends.
"It's a huge confidence boost to win an event again," he said. "I haven't won anything since Zarautz in 2012, and there were plenty of great surfers here this week. I wanted to surf well, get big scores and make heats so I'm really happy with how it turned out. Seeing Marc [Lacomare] win in Lacanau last week really made me want to do the same here. Jorgann surfed great too, he's improved so much these past few years it's been incredible to watch him. Now my goal is clearly to win again, in Pantin or the Azores."
Third Time No Charm for Jorgann
Jorgann Couzinet made the Final for the third time in 2017 and once again was refused his first-ever win. However, his return to form should worry some of his opponents as he's out for blood (but mostly QS points) in the next few European events.

"I'm still smiling but I won't lie, it hurts to see the win get away again," he said. "I made a couple little mistakes and I thought this Final could have been mine to win. I'm still super stoked with a runner-up though, it's made me even hungrier to win my QS."
Coco's Roll Continues
Coco Ho has turned her season around and is looking great heading into the back half of the year. She started with a ninth place in Mexico, a fifth at the Supergirl Pro, a third at the US Open and now she's just won the Pro Anglet. In the Final she milked every opportunity she got and, despite relatively low scores, mostly because the waves didn't offer much, looked unbeatable.

"It was a dream come true to be in the final with Maud [Le Car], we both struggled this year in our own way and it was great to share that moment," she said. "This whole contest was super good practice, I was working on everything I've been struggling with and it's good to see it pay off. Volcom Europe did such a good job of supporting us and it was very cool to have them here today."
Maud Upsets Local Favorite and Finds Her Groove Back
Maud Le Car started her day by eliminating local hero Pauline Ado in a tight Semifinal match. She surfed really well and seemed to have finally kissed her bad run of results goodbye. She couldn't quite rival Coco in the Final, even if her scores were close, but reaching the Final was enough to pump her up for the next few events, and next season.

"It was really cool to have two man-on-man heats with two CT surfers, Pauline and Coco," Le Car said. "It's such great practice and I'm really happy to be able to show what I'm capable of. I'm super motivated now to go compete again in the next few events. We didn't have many waves in the final unfortunately, but I guess the both of us are dealt the same cards, so you just needs to adapt to whatever's on offer."
With the Pro Anglet completed today, the new European QS Top 5 is as follows:
Men:
1 - Gony Zubizarreta
2 - Jorgann Couzinet
3 - Marc Lacomare
4 - Vasco Ribeiro
5 - Jonathan Gonzalez
