It was a big win for Florence, who up until this point was 0-3 against wildcard Dale Staples. Staples is a J-Bay local who's very comfortable in this lineup. By defeating him, Florence has now placed added pressure on No. 3 ranked Jordy Smith. Smith was edged by a very determined looking Conner Coffin in Heat 5 of Round One, which means he's now facing a sudden death match with Staples in the first heat of Round Two. Basically, Smith has drawn the one guy with more lineup experience than himself. This could get interesting.
