Despite leaving a crack in the door open for Adriano de Souza in the dying moments of their heat, Stu Kennedy was able to take down the World No. 2-ranked surfer with powerful backhand surfing. It was an especially harsh blow for De Souza, who could have taken over the Jeep Leader Yellow Jersey by progressing out of Round Three.
