Apparently, even World Champions can find room for improvement. He may be riding a groundswell of momentum following his victory in Rio, but in the eyes of 2015 World Champ Adriano de Souza, his first round win at the Fiji Pro had more to do with a year-old Tavarua training session with Kelly Slater than anything that happened last month in the land of samba and World Title contenders. The 10-day Tavy training session occurred immediately following last year's Fiji Pro and the humble Brazilian used the time with Slater and Conner Coffin (who's worked as a boatman on Tavy since he was a teenager) to soak up some of the GOAT's 27 years of experience and wisdom surfing out at Cloudbreak. Whatever was gleaned from the tutorial appears to have worked, as De Souza's heat win comes with a free ticket to Round Three.
