On a remote atoll in the Tuamotu Islands, the hollow break of Rangiroa welcomed WSL athletes the world over to compete in the Men's QS1,000.
An hour flight from the main island of Tahiti, Rangiroa is a small island with big culture and plenty of waves. The opening ceremony was a beautiful display of traditional music and dance and surfers mingled with locals while sipping coconuts and enjoying the lively entertainment.
Sixty-eight surfers were treated to countless barrels as the competition whittled down on Day 1, with standout performances going to Imaikalani deVault for his 9.50 ride and Makana Eleogram for an 8.00.
