Moments before nailing one of the best waves of the day at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast Thursday, Gabriel Medina tweaked his right knee after an aborted backside Rodeo. The injury, however, didn't stop the former World Champ from capping his Round One heat with an absolute banger.
After locking down a 7.83 early on, Medina dropped straight into a sucky drainer spinning just off the rocks, then continued with a blistering backhand assault, complete with two nasty, vertical whip cracks.
Medical staff on site immediately attended to Medina at the conclusion of his heat, calling it a mild MCL strain. Reports later trickled out stating that he would definitely surf on. Good news for Medina, great news for surf fans.
