Today marks day one of the World Surf League (WSL) NIB Pro Junior JQS Event to Run at Merewether Beach, Newcastle. The event runs in conjunction with the Newcastle Surfest and will see competitors from all over the globe battle it out for Qualifying Points into the 2017 World Junior Championships.
The Nib Pro Junior consists of a field of 64 Men and 32 Women from over all over the world.
The NIB Pro Junior will run today, Saturday February 11 and wrap up Tomorrow the 12th. Surfest has already been running for over 2 weeks with a number of different local and amateur events being run and won in the build up to this, the festivals biggest 2 week period.
Hitting the water this afternoon will be Current Women's World Junior Champion and NIB Pro Junior reigning event champion Macy Callaghan who can't wait to take on the World's best at the beautiful Merewether Beach.
A full wrap up of today's action will be distributed at the end of competition on Day 1.
