With huge requalification implications on the line, Kanoa Igarashi defeated Keanu Asing in a low-scoring affair. With less than two minutes left in their Round Two heat at the Billabong Pipe Masters, Igarashi earned a 6.0 to take the lead from Asing and effectively crush the Hawaiian's hopes of keeping his spot on the Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour in 2017. Igarashi's win also brought him closer to his goal of qualifying for the CT through his rankings on both the CT and QS, which would improve QS No. 11 Ezekiel Lau's chances of making it to the CT. For Asing, the loss was a tough pill to swallow after a roller-coaster year. Igarashi followed with a win over Julian Wilson, advancing to Round Four for just the second time this season.
