After a morning of heavy losses and crushed dreams, Jadson Andre and Ethan Ewing made it through Round Three in tricky conditions at Sunset. Following early exits from the top three Qualifying Series (QS) surfers, Ewing, who's No. 4 on the QS, managed to squeak through his heat along with 11x World Champ Kelly Slater. Although Ethan has already secured a spot on the Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour (CT) in 2017, a big result at Sunset will help his seed for his rookie season.
Jadson Andre's situation was much more dire. Sitting at No. 12 on the QS ranks, the Brazilian CT veteran needed to crack Round Four in order to better his QS rank. With top seeds Bino Lopes (No. 8) and Ryan Callinan (No. 9) already knocked out, Jadson has a clear path to a top 10 spot and with it, requalification for the CT in 2017.
