Billy Kemper knows the reef at Sunset as well as anyone, and his local knowledge showed during Round One of Vans World Cup. Fresh off a win in massive surf at the Pe'ahi challenge, Kemper had no problem adjusting to the smaller canvas at Sunset. He sliced his way to a pair of solid scores in the wonky conditions to earn a commanding Round One win. Fellow Maui native Torrey Meister and Tahitian O'Neill Massin also capitalized on a few clean gems on to their ways to Round Two.
