LOS ANGELES, California (Thursday, September 8, 2016) - The World Surf League (WSL) is heartbroken to report that David "Woody" Wood, the sport's Head of Security for over 20 years, has passed away.
"This community, and specifically the sport, is a family and today we mourn the loss of one of our own," Paul Speaker, WSL CEO, said. "David Wood was our friend and brother. He watched over us, the world's best surfers and this community for over two decades. It is an unthinkably sad day for surfing and our thoughts and prayers are with Woody's family and friends."
Mr. Wood was in Southern California for the Hurley and Swatch Pro at Trestles when he passed away. He leaves behind four sons.
