Nearly 200 surfers from all over the world will contest the Komunity Project Great Lakes Pro presented by Rockstar Energy Drink in Boomerang Beach over the next four days.
The elite World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 1000 competition - which will form the final of four stops on the recently announced NSW Pro Surf Series - will take place from 15 - 18 February, 2016.
To cater to the increased demand for a high caliber competition in the area, the event has been extended by another day with the men running a round of 144 and the women running a round of 48.
Former WSL Championship Tour (CT) and number two seed Pauline Ado (FRA) is looking forward to kicking off her 2016 campaign with a solid result at Boomerang.
"When I looked at the schedule of this year's WQS I thought this event was the perfect opportunity to test myself before Newcastle and Manly," said Ado. "It's been a long break since my last event. Everyone has been working hard and the goal here is to get a good contest rhythm to start the year off. This event is going to be a good challenge. I actually got injured three weeks ago and I'm allowed to surf again this weekend, so I'm excited. I just arrived in Boomerang beach. It's my first time here and so far I love it. The place looks beautiful."
After a solid semi-final result at the 2016 Carve Pro at Maroubra, number one men's seed Stuart Kennedy (AUS) is hoping to go one better at the Komunity Project Great Lakes Pro.
"The Great Lakes region is an amazing piece of the NSW coastline," said Kennedy. "To have an event here is something that I'm stoked to be a part of and I hope I can go one result better at this event and get the ball rolling going into Surfest and the Australian Open."
