Keramas Turns On: Pumping Waves at Komune Bali Pro

The swell pumped up at Keramas as the high seeds entered the water on Day 2 of the WSL QS1000 Komune Bali Pro presented by The Mad Hueys.

Consistent waves around 5 feet allowing good barrel rides along with full power-turns favored the experienced surfers and none more so than No. 1 seed Taj Burrow (AUS). The Championship Tour (CT) veteran simply had fun in his high- scoring Round 2 and Round 3 heats, scoring multiple high eight- and nine-point rides on his way to victory.

"Such a great wave on these types of swells, there's barrels, speed and carve sections and it's simply great to surf the wave with only a few others in the water," said Burrow.

Fellow West Australian surfer Jay Davies was another standout, sending buckets of spray on all his moves as he advanced to Round 4.

Local surfers excelled. Marlon Gerber made it into the final 16 along with Made Darmayasa and Komang Promata, a Keramas local.

Mad Hueys team rider Nick Vasicek (AUS) lead a strong goofyfoot charge to advance. Dean Bowen (AUS) and Dimitre Ouvre (BLM) followed Vasicek's lead, also advancing with strong backhand attacks.

Notable mentions go to young teenager Sheldon Simkus (AUS), who lead for much of his heat against Burrow and advanced in second, as well as and Stuart Campbell from Great Britain, who also advanced in second place.

Just 11 heats remain and, with great conditions forecast for an early start, a champion is expected to be crowned before mid-day on an ideal high tide.

This year marks the second annual Komune Bali Pro, which is dual sanctioned by the World Surf League and the Asian Surfing Championship Tour event.
