THE LOCATION: The iconic Basque town of Biarritz sits in the heart of the Bay of Biscay, adjacent to Anglet and Bayonne. It's a very popular holiday destination for tourists and surfers alike.
THE HISTORY: Biarritz is the birthplace of surfing in Europe and has seen generations enjoy the playful conditions at Côte des Basques since the 50's. The first events date all the way back to 1960. More recently, Biarritz has hosted the Women's World Longboard Championships and a stop of the Women's Championship Tour in 2011 and 2012.
THE WAVE: A large stretch of beach provides A-frame type peaks in front of the rocky cliffs. High-tide gets tricky with waves breaking over the rockwall protecting the waterfront hotels and restaurants.
